Africa A Potential To Help Walk The World out Of A Food Crisis

With the entire world currently facing a food crisis resulting from high food prices that has been as a result of many factors, recently Jeffrey D. Sachs, the head of Columbia University's Earth Institute, said wealthy nations had neglected aid for agriculture for decades in the mistaken belief that market forces would stimulate farmers to invest in good practices.
But he said increased production requires money for fertilizer, water management and high-yield seeds -- things many poor farmers do not have and the international community has not been willing to provide. He gave an example of Malawi as one of the nations that could help grow more food provided good incentives were provided to poor farmer. With that on the other hand African countries are known for political instabilities, corruption, civil wars, tribalism, insecurity to mention but a few. For example Kenya is only now trying to reconcile its people after a long tribalistic fight where many Kenyans lost lives as a result of President Mwai Kibaki ridging of elections,Sierra Leone a country that is also trying to heal its wounds of war ,Uganda which has also suffered a civil war for more than 20 years in the northern part of the country not to mention Ethiopia,Somalia to mention but a few. With all these kind of challenges that the African continent is facing one wonders whether its really viable to provide help to the African continent to boost more food production and help walk the entire world over food shortages and ever increasing food prices?. Are the right measures being done? or there is still a need to invest money to combat the ever increasing food prices more carefully than ever before!.
